Transitioning Summer Clothes into Fall

Transitioning Summer Clothes into Fall, Target Fall Outfit

There’s still plenty of summer left, but there is a hint of fall in the air at night and in the early mornings. We’re about to enter the season when we need to add a layer when we leave for work in the morning. We don’t have to give up our summer clothes. We just have to make them work for fall. Here are a few ideas for transitioning summer clothes into fall wardrobes.

As I was looking for ways to take summer clothes into fall, I saw the photo above on Target’s website and I loved how they used the solid summer dress as a long vest. I used that in one of my ensembles in this post.

A few early leaves are already displaying red, reminding me of how much I love fall colors. Combining some of our favorite summer items with a pop of fall color could make our summer clothes work well into fall.

Here’s a collection of items from Target, including the dress used as a top layer. You may not have that solid dress, but maybe you have a favorite floral or striped dress that buttons down the front. Throw on a pair of jeans and add some fall-colored mules or boots. If the short sleeved tee shirt doesn’t keep you warm enough, grab one with longer sleeves.

Speaking of floral dresses, here’s another set of items from Target that suggest ways to wear your summer dress into fall. The woven texture of the cream-colored sweater hints of cool weather and the brown boots and bag give the outfit a distinctly fall look. When the sun warms up midday, you can take off the sweater and bask in the delicious September warmth.

This outfit includes items from Everlane. You can take your favorite cropped jeans (black, cream, or blue) into fall by layering them with a heavy sweater in rich fall colors, such as this cognac sweater. You can switch out your crew neck tee for a tee with a low, loose turtleneck. Throw on a pair of low heels or flats.

Go for a bold pairing by partnering your favorite flowered skirt with a different pattern, like stripes. I chose some items from J. Crew that might be fun to wear this fall. A classic long sleeved striped shirt, paired with a floral skirt and dark accessories (these are navy) will keep you warm and in style in the cooler weather.

No… not ready to say goodbye to summer yet…. but indeed the weather is starting to shift a little bit. Fun posts — even if you are reminding us that Autumn is right around the corner ; )
