We’re looking forward to a little change of pace this weekend, with a Mother’s Day chat with our Moms. We hope to take a little drive somewhere and pack lunch for a picnic. We won’t go far, but we will enjoy a trip out of the neighborhood.
I hope that you are well. Have a good Mother’s Day weekend.
We’re about eight weeks into our quarantine. We are crazy walking people. (Last weekend we walked about 15 miles.) We wander the neighborhoods and admire flowering trees and gardens filled with spring blooms. Eventually we return home, exhausted and hungry. So hungry!
As the oldest child in a family of six, I learned a lot about making food stretch and storing food. It’s helping during these quarantine days. I can turn leftovers into meal after meal. Luckily, we really like leftovers.
My sourdough starter is going strong. Last week, I made more sourdough bread. I also made a cast iron skillet rhubarb sourdough pancake for dessert.
- The Washington Post recommended 10 books to read in May and I want to read these two first (Washington Post):
- In Praise of Walking: A New Scientific Exploration (Amazon) — We know walking makes us feel good. Now we can learn why.
- Dirt: Adventures in Lyon as a Chef in Training, Father, and Sleuth Looking for the Secret of French Cooking (Amazon) — Oh, to escape into French restaurant kitchens via this book.
- You Must Be Wondering How to Wear Sweatpants 5 Days in a Row — One pair of sweatpants styled in five ways. (Man Repeller)
- This grid music performance of Ravel’s Bolero by Juilliard students and alumni is so beautiful and moving. (Kottke.org)
- A Mother, A Pandemic and Scorched Rice — Recipes for scorched rice and an engaging tale to accompany them. (New York Times)
- We binge-watched The English Game and I am sorry that it is over. It was a really good story. Loved the costumes. (Netflix)
- I recommend making a meal of this green bean, watercress and feta salad. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Goodness: Family creates a home grocery store so grandmother with Alzheimer’s can stick to her routine. This video is so heartwarming. (Swiss Miss)
