Savory Granola

Savory Granola

I recommend making a batch of this savory granola. It’s crunchy and spicy and makes a great topping for salads, soups and other everyday dishes.

Make a big batch to give to family and friends as gifts. Present it in a pretty canning jar tied with a bow.

Eat this savory granola as a snack right out of the jar. Mix it with a batch of popcorn.

Change up your breakfast routine by sprinkling some on top of scrambled eggs. Make a breakfast bowl with chopped tomatoes, avocado and Greek yogurt, topped with some of this savory granola.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons raw sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons flax seeds
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper (1/2 if you prefer less spice)
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt (divided in half)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup

Directions

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix the oats, nuts, seeds, pepper and 1 teaspoon salt.

In a small bowl, blend the egg white, olive oil and agave syrup. Pour it into the oat mixture and stir the ingredients well.

Spread the mixture out onto the baking sheet.

Bake for 20 – 25 minutes, stopping halfway through to sprinkle the granola with the remaining 1 teaspoon of salt and stirring the ingredients. The granola should be golden brown.

Remove from the oven and cool. Store it in an airtight container, such as a glass jar.
