Everyone likes buying locally made items that help support our neighbors. I’ve found a selection of items made in New England that I think will make great gifts for family and friends.
I hope that you find the right gift in this selection.
Pewter Cow Baby Cup
The classic baby gift, with a twist. From Danforth Pewter in Middlebury, VT, this beautiful pewter cup will be treasured by parents, and the little cow grazing atop the handle will delight its user.
Wooden Rolling Rover
Made in Middlebury, VT, the design of this toddler toy was inspired by the Mars Rover. The hardwood maple vehicle, with flexible joints, can travel up and over just about anything. It can be pushed by hand or dragged by a string to travel the length of a little one’s territory.
Taza Chocolate Sampler
Sweeten someone’s holiday with a selection of Taza’s Chocolate Mexicano discs. Taza, of Somerville, MA, makes its stone ground chocolate using original techniques the owners learned in Oaxaca, Mexico. Taza uses ethically sourced cocoa.
Waxed Canvas Lunch Bags
Save the environment from plastic bags and share these reusable waxed canvas lunch bags from The Everyday Company in Sherborn, MA. A little larger than a traditional brown paper lunch bag, these bags can be used over and over. They come in brown, navy and chartreuse and you can have them monogrammed with the initial of your choice.
Engravable Cufflinks
For special occasions, these cufflinks will add the final touches to a dress shirt. They’re made by Danforth Pewter in Middlebury, VT. Add an initial to personalize them.
Birch Tree Pottery Plates
You are sure to make someone happy with this lovely bowl decorated with birch trees. It’s made by Muddy Girls Studios in Lowell, MA. Who doesn’t enjoy the sight of New England’s birch trees?
They also make the birch tree plates shown in the top photograph.
Update: The bowl shown in the photo sold out days after I published this post. The plates sold out soon after. Here is similar pottery from the artist.
Couture Planet Handbag
The Travel India Handbag featured in the photo above caught my eye. The dresses are stunning and the opposite side of the bag tells the story of the bride who went to India to shop for her wedding dress. The bag is made by Couture Planet in Lynn, MA (founded and run by women).
If you’re shopping for a Red Sox fan, this bag with the photo of Andrew Benetendi’s famous World Series catch might make the perfect gift. It’s also available in a wristlet.
I’ve raved about this company before (here and here).
Good Paws Bakery Dog Treats
Good Paws Bakery in Windham, NH, makes these wholesome dog treats from only three ingredients and they size them so that most dog breeds can enjoy them. Pick up a bag of these for your furry loved ones.
