It’s the weekend!

It's the weekend! Number 53!, Bluebird on a Fence

I’m looking forward to sticking close to home this weekend. If the weather cooperates, I’ll work in the gardens. If it doesn’t, there are lots of things to do inside.

I hope that you enjoy the first weekend of June.

  • Why we shouldn’t eat alone. — Interesting article about how the more that people eat with others, the more likely they are to feel happy and satisfied with their lives.
  • One woman’s observations. — Watching the Royal Wedding as a Black Woman Married to a White Man.
  • Be careful what you say or you may have a mariachi band serenading you and your neighbors!
  • Did you catch my follow-up with Devin Mara about her Peace Corps experience? You can find it here.
  • Looking for an outlet for your inner artist? Sculpt creations with this FUN soap and then use a little bit to get clean. While you’re creating your masterpiece and taking a bath, 2.5% of the sale of each bar helps make a difference in children’s lives.
  • These shoes look so comfortable. They’re made from recycled water bottles, a soft knit material (read no blisters), machine washable, recyclable and come in brilliant colors and lots of sizes. If that isn’t enough reason to want a pair, there’s this — the insole is removable, so you can add arch supports or custom orthotics. Also, they are lightweight and perfect for packing. I’m so practical, I ordered this black pair, but I love these shades:
  • Goodness: I was touched on Memorial Day to read a friend’s Facebook post about being on a flight with a fallen Pearl Harbor sailor. The soldier was being returned home after DNA matching identified his remains. My friend’s post says it all:
I was so very moved yesterday when on my flight was a fallen sailor from Pearl Harbor. He was brought home to his final resting place after dna matching 77 years later. A beautiful ceremony took place as we came into a special gate with water cannons and an entourage of military, family and other patriots. A bugler played Taps while his coffin was placed in the hearse. Thank you to all fallen soldiers this Memorial Day.
I believe that this article is about that sailor.

About the photo: My first bluebird, spotted in South Carolina earlier this spring. (Yes, there’s a blurry cardinal in the background.)
