I’m looking forward to sticking close to home this weekend. If the weather cooperates, I’ll work in the gardens. If it doesn’t, there are lots of things to do inside.
I hope that you enjoy the first weekend of June.

- These shoes look so comfortable. They’re made from recycled water bottles, a soft knit material (read no blisters), machine washable, recyclable and come in brilliant colors and lots of sizes. If that isn’t enough reason to want a pair, there’s this — the insole is removable, so you can add arch supports or custom orthotics. Also, they are lightweight and perfect for packing. I’m so practical, I ordered this black pair, but I love these shades:
- Goodness: I was touched on Memorial Day to read a friend’s Facebook post about being on a flight with a fallen Pearl Harbor sailor. The soldier was being returned home after DNA matching identified his remains. My friend’s post says it all:
I was so very moved yesterday when on my flight was a fallen sailor from Pearl Harbor. He was brought home to his final resting place after dna matching 77 years later. A beautiful ceremony took place as we came into a special gate with water cannons and an entourage of military, family and other patriots. A bugler played Taps while his coffin was placed in the hearse. Thank you to all fallen soldiers this Memorial Day.
I believe that this article is about that sailor.
About the photo: My first bluebird, spotted in South Carolina earlier this spring. (Yes, there’s a blurry cardinal in the background.)
