I’m looking forward to sand and sun this weekend. I’m indulging in a fun beach read and I need time to relax and enjoy it.
Have a sunny summer weekend!
The harvest season is in full swing at our house and it has been glorious. We’ve been eating the peas shown in the photo above. Radishes with butter are a regular appetizer with our weekend cocktails. Radishes are so rewarding. You put the seeds in the ground and a month later you have beautiful colorful balls of crisp spiciness.
I’ve made radish green pesto, a kale and brown rice casserole and a Swiss chard galette. We’ve had spinach and lettuce salads. Garlic scapes are going on the grill this week. There is something so satisfying about eating what you’ve grown.
Even the compost brings me joy. As I shoveled rich dirt into the garden and vegetable pots, I admired the dark soil and squirmy red worms. The full circle of produce to table, scraps to compost and compost to dirt is a beautiful thing.
And sometimes we need to take a break from our labors, even the fun ones like gardening and cooking. Here are some reading options while you are on your break.
