It’s the weekend!

It's the weekend! Number 172, Zinnias Cut from My Garden

We might have a final blast of warm weather this weekend and I’m hoping to take advantage. I’m having a socially distanced trip to a nursery with my friends, Susan and Houda. Our usual fall trip for plants and ice cream is a bit stymied, but we will meet at the nursery to look at plants and have a chat.

Have a good weekend with plenty of time outside!

The best thing that I planted in my vegetable garden this year was giant zinnias. Sure, I can’t eat them, but they bring me so much joy. They tower above the garden, reaching for the sun, and their colors are brilliant. When I look out the window, approach my house from the street or walk out into the yard, I experience a rush of happiness when I see the reds, purples, oranges and pinks of those flowers. And during these pandemic times, those colors make me feel a little bit better.

It was a sad week, starting last Friday night with the news that RBG had passed away. On Sunday we had lost 200,000 Americans to Covid-19. The weekend was blanketed in grief.
