We are looking forward to warm weather this weekend. I’m hoping to clean up a very shabby garden bed, along with a few other chores. If we are lucky, perhaps it will be warm enough for a cocktail in the backyard.
Have a lovely weekend. Stay well.
Seven weeks of social distancing. We tackled steeper hills on last weekend’s walks. A couple wished us good luck as we passed them, heading up a particularly steep road. If we are lucky, we’ll be ready for hiking when this quarantine is over.
Last weekend I made sourdough pancakes using a cup of discard. We ate them with fresh fruit and maple syrup and they were delicious! (I used this New York Times recipe.) The remaining sour milk cornbread was repurposed into a very tasty cornbread pudding.
We celebrated our great-niece’s first birthday in a Zoom party. We watched Samantha devour a frosted cookie in the shape of a 1, dig into chocolate cake with her hands and rub frosting into her hair. Although we missed being able to pick her up and cuddle her, it was a successful first-year party.

Gabrielle introduced me to Negronis in her memoir, Blood, Bones & Butter (IndieBound). We have been fortunate to have had two wonderful dining experiences at her lovely restaurant, Prune. - Amazing Winner and Finalists of Nikon’s Surf Photo of the Year 2020 — These photos are breathtaking! - Mother’s Day is around the corner. Here are a few of my favorite gift ideas:
- A statement handbag from local Planet Couture. I love the flower power of Woodstock – 50.
- This Harbor Sweets Lighthouse Box filled with their delicious sweet sloops (almond toffee crunch covered in dark and white chocolate and dipped in chopped pecans – in the shape of little sailboats). Harbor Sweets is another local company.
