Italian Gentleman Cocktails

Italian Gentleman Cocktail with bourbon and Campari

Campari and bourbon balance each other nicely in an Italian Gentleman cocktail. With lots of fresh lemon juice, this cocktail is a twist on a whiskey sour.

I’m always on the hunt for recipes using Italian bitters. I found this recipe on several online sites and really enjoyed the refreshing flavor of this cocktail.

The recipe makes two drinks.

Tips

  • I reduced the amount of simple syrup called for in the original recipe. If you like a sweet cocktail, double the amount.
  • One reviewer suggested using a “bold” bourbon to stand up to the Campari (the suggestion was for Angles Envy). I used Maker’s Mark and really enjoyed it, but you might want to experiment with other bourbons.

Ingredients

You need the following ingredients to make an Italian Gentleman cocktail.

  • 3 ounces Campari
  • 3 ounces bourbon
  • 1 1/2 ounces lemon juice (strained)
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • Dash of orange bitters (optional)
  • Lemon wheel for garnish

Directions

Add a few ice cubes to two coupe glasses to chill them.

Add ice and the other liquid ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake well.

Empty the ice from the glasses and strain the cocktail blend into the glasses. Garnish the drinks with the lemon wheels.

Enjoy.
