Going Gray

Going Gray

In July of 2020, I got an outdoor haircut (the first cut since February of that year) and I stopped coloring my hair. It was so liberating. I loved my short hair and I looked forward to letting my natural color grow out for the first time in decades. Going gray has been a wonderful experience!

You can get a sense of what my hair had looked like for years in this photo, which is several years old.

My Hair Color For Years

Here’s what it looked like shortly after my cut in July of 2020. I’ve still got most of the color, but this new short cut was so easy to maintain. It was the easiest wash and wear style and I loved that.

My Hair Cut a Year Ago to Start Growing Out the Color

Growing out the color would take months.

My Roots When They Started to Show

The gray slowly made its appearance and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed seeing it. My hair felt softer and softer as the color-treated ends grew out.

This spring I had another outdoor haircut and the last of my color was removed! A year after starting this process, I have mostly white hair in the front, with a salt and pepper look going in the back. It’s easy and I am very happy with the color.
