This weekend we’ll be celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday on Martha’s Vineyard. I’m looking forward to long summer days, ocean breezes and birthday celebrations.
I hope that you have a wonderful first weekend of summer.
- While there has been an executive order issued to stop separating children from their parents at the border, no plan has been announced about reuniting the families who have already been separated. There is also great concern that families will be detained indefinitely. Cup of Jo lists several ways that we can try to help.
- Are you wondering what to read this summer? The New York Time’s Book Review summer reading list probably has something for you.
- Jameela Jamil asked not to be photoshopped for a cover shoot. Very cool.
- Interesting photography projects visualizing our growing urban infrastructure.
- Here are some ideas for Full-Coverage Outfits that Won’t Make You Sweat.

- This week I blogged about salad dressing (salad recipes will follow). These salad dressing recipes are staples in my house:
- Goodness: Three Facebook employees take action to do something about the separation of families.
About the photo: Plaque on the Statue of Liberty, with a poem written by Emma Lazarus in 1883. Here are the words.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
