The Lillet Reviver cocktail is a refreshingly citrusy gin drink with a hint of anise. When you get that first hint of Pastis, you may sit back in surprise, but you’ll soon move in for another sip. It grows on you.
This cocktail recipe comes from David Lebovitz’s delightful Drinking French (Bookshop.org) cocktail book. I’ve been a fan of David Lebovitz for a long time, ever since I read The Sweet Life in Paris (Bookshop.org). I’ve been reading his blog for years, where I followed his work on Drinking French, and I was thrilled to be given a copy for my birthday. Lillet Reviver is the first cocktail that I’ve tried, but there are many appealing recipes to try in the future.
Lebovitz says that this cocktail is also called Corpse Reviver No. 2. He likes the name Lillet Reviver, because it references the Lillet Blanc apéritif. I did an online search for “Corpse Reviver” and the numbers go quite high. It’s a popular drink name.
Ingredients
You need the following ingredients to make two Lillet Reviver cocktails.
- 2 ounces gin
- 2 ounces Grand Marnier, Cointreau, or triple sec
- 2 ounces Lillet Blanc
- 2 ounces fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Pastis or absinthe
- 2 lemon or orange twists for garnishes
Directions
Chill two coupe or martini glasses in the freezer.
Add the gin, Grand Marnier, Lillet Blanc, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and shake until the contents are well chilled.
Swirl the Pastis around in the two glasses and pour out the excess.
Strain the cocktails into the glasses. Garnish with the citrus twist.
