Gifts from Your Kitchen, 2024

Jars of Cashew Cranberry Granola

This season, give your loved ones gifts from your kitchen. Everyone appreciates gifts of homemade goodies.

Your gift can be a favorite baked good, spice blend, nut mix, or herbal tea. Other ideas are pasta sauce, salsa, pickles, jams, or jellies.

Here are some of my recipes for homemade gifts.

Granolas

Jar of Pecan Cranberry Granola

Share jars of crunchy granola that can be spooned on yogurt for breakfast or ice cream for dessert.

For gifting, you can wash and reuse pasta sauce or large jelly jars, then  top them with a patterned cloth cover and a ribbon. If you want a new storage container, canning jars like these Weck jars are nice.

  • Cashew Cranberry Granola — A granola bursting with chewy cranberries, sweet coconut, and generous cashew pieces. Healthy oats, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and other tasty ingredients round out the blend.
  • Pecan Cranberry Granola — There are plenty of tasty pecans, right to the last bite of this sweet and crunchy pecan cranberry granola. Flax, sunflower, and sesame seeds are mixed with oats and honey in this delicious granola that will make folks look forward to breakfast.
  • Maple Nut Granola — This is a New England granola made with local maple syrup and cranberries. The mixture includes lots of pecans and walnuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and coconut.

Breads

Cranberry Bread

Bring a loaf of quick bread as a gift and everyone will thank you for sweetening their mornings and saving them from making breakfast.

These are favorite quick bread recipes. You can find lots more on the blog.

If you have sourdough starter in your house, here are some bread recipes that use sourdough discard.

Nuts

Bowl of Cardamom Almonds

Give a jar of seasoned nuts to snack on during the holidays.

Spice and Nut Blends

Your family and friends might enjoy jars of these savory blends.

  • Dukkah — Dukkah is a traditional Egyptian toasted spice and nut blend that is delicious sprinkled over salads and soups, roasted vegetables, and grilled fish or meat. It will make an unexpected and welcome gift to anyone who enjoys trying new foods.
  • Savory Granola — Similar to dukkah, you can sprinkle this savory granola on soups and salads. With unusual seeds and herbs, it elevates a simple salad with bursts of crunchy flavor.
  • Smoky Nut and Oat Crunch — A toasted blend of spices, peanut butter, oats, and nuts that tastes great on Thai noodle dishes, grilled vegetables, and salads. It’s hard not to eat this by the spoonful directly from the bottle!
