Highlighting the fruits available at this time of year, this winter fruit salad with citrus honey dressing will deliver much-needed fresh flavors to your winter table. The sweet citrusy dressing complements the crisp apples and flavorful pears featured in this salad.
This is a great salad to serve in fall and winter, when apples, pears, oranges and pomegranates are available.
I got this salad recipe from Natasha’s Kitchen. I used a little more honey in my version of the dressing to sweeten the crisp flavor of the apples.
Tips
- You can round out the salad with kiwis, bananas or persimmons. I used late season plums in my fall version.
- Use any type of apple or pear. I used Honeycrisp and Macintosh apples and Bartlett pears in the salad shown in the photo.
- Thinly slice the fruits, so that the pieces absorb the dressing.
Ingredients
For the dressing, use the following ingredients.
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lime juice
- 2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice
For the fruit, use the following ingredients as a guideline (making about 8 servings).
- 5 clementines, peeled and separated
- 3 medium apples, cored, cut into thin slices and then into small pieces
- 2 large pears, cored, cut into thin slices and then into small pieces
- 4 kiwis, peeled, cut into thin slices and then into small pieces
- 1 pomegranate, seeded (about 1 cup of arils)
Directions
Blend the dressing ingredients together and set aside.
Add the fruit to a serving bowl. For a beautiful presentation, you can arrange the sliced fruit in rings around a shallow bowl. It takes more time, but looks great. If you aren’t serving the salad right away, sprinkle the salad with lemon juice and cover the fruit with a wet towel to keep it from browning.
Just before serving, drizzle the dressing over the fruit and gently toss the ingredients together.
