What Brings You Joy?

I’m thinking about joy at the start of this new year.

A while ago, I read a Cup of Jo post called What are Your Simple Pleasures? Johanna referred to a series of Twitter posts by artist, Moose Allain, in which he tweeted about small joys. Johanna was inspired to write about her simple pleasures and she asked her readers to share what gives them pleasure.

I loved that post. It inspired me to start 2019 by continuing with the subject of joy.

Here are some of the things that bring me joy.

  • The smell of my three-season porch on a late September day, when a stockpile of apples from my apple tree have been warming in it.
  • Breathing in huge gulps of ocean air.
  • A glimpse of my son.
  • The sight and smell of autumn leaves.
  • Being at the beach in the late afternoon, and not having to be somewhere that night.
  • Resting in front of the fire after finishing the snow shoveling.
  • Exploring country roads without a specific destination.
  • Taking an outdoor shower on a summer evening.
  • Playing music on a Friday night and dancing by myself before my husband gets home. Also, Friday nights with my husband.
  • The Christmas tree with its lights on at night.
  • The thinnest crescent moon (also, the fullest moon and all of the moons in between).

What brings you joy? What are your simple pleasures?
