I’ve been enjoying the welcome sight of spring flowers on my daily walks through the neighborhood. While it’s still cold outside, these early flowers remind us that warmer weather is just around the corner.
I’m taking a break from my frequent food posts to share some spring flowers with you.
It wouldn’t be a spring flower post without snowdrops. These pristine white blooms are one of the first flowers to appear signaling that winter is almost over.
Periwinkle blue of early creeping myrtle blossoms poking up from a bed of pine needles.
While hellebore blooms often appear in winter, this one was especially perky on the day I took its picture. The leaves always look torn and faded in spring, but the flowers are stunning. I think this variety might be Ivory Prince.
Whether they come in a large brilliant clump…
Or a single bloom, purple crocuses are a welcome sight. With their brilliant purple petals and stunning yellow stamens, the contrasting colors make a showy display in the sun.
Siberian squill, in and out of focus, make a pretty display with a little myrtle in the background.
So many spring flowers come in purple, blue, and yellow. These dwarf irises and crocuses are an example.
There are more blooms to look forward to. Daffodils have just started to open. I expect a grand display in a week or so. I’ve seen a couple of open forsythia petals, but the shrubs are not quite ready. They’ll burst open soon. Hyacinth and tulips haven’t made an appearance yet. Later, the magnolias and lilacs will flower. I am so happy that spring flowers come in stages, so that we can savor the experience.
