We made a brief stop in Ojai during our California trip last fall. As we walked through town, I had to keep stopping to take in the beautiful tiled roofs and the painted wall tiles decorating many of the town’s structures.
When I lived in CA years ago, I made a couple of visits to Ojai. The outdoor bookstore, Bart’s Books, was a favorite stop. It’s still there and I enjoyed introducing my family to this treasure. Besides visiting the bookstore, we stopped for a honey tasting (delicious!) and a takeout taco lunch (with homemade flour tortillas) that we enjoyed in the park. I wish that we’d had more time to explore, but the afternoon in Ojai was a bonus on our amazing West Coast vacation.
I managed to take a few photos around town.

Here’s the fountain.
This is a nice example of the red clay tiles frequently used on rooftops throughout Ojai. I like the decorative little roof on top.
A small grouping of tiles adds a splash of color to a shopfront.
I was constantly looking up and down, so that I didn’t miss any of the beautiful tiles and rooftops. Such an incredible amount of detail!
Arches and pointed roof lines complement each other.
Another version of orange and blue tiles.

The beautiful white curves and angles of this roof contrast nicely with the clear blue sky.
Beautiful teal, aquamarine and shades of blue on another storefront.
A peek at a mountain and endless sky!
Tiles used to decorate a park in the center of town. I think that the bird is holding swords.
