The other day I was in the front yard marveling at the show my white azaleas were putting on, when I decided to share some photos with you. Here are greens and whites of my spring garden, which were especially beautiful last week.
I love color. I am currently enjoying clumps of deep purple irises in my backyard, a pot of blue and yellow peonies on my front porch, and hints of bright pink peonies just starting to open in my garden beds. But, as much as I love brightly colored flowers, I also love the classic combination of green and white plants.
You can almost smell the fragrant perfume of this white lilac. I took a piece of this shrub from Tom’s parents’ yard before their house was sold. It’s nice to have some of their plants in our yard. This shrub is still small, but it seems very happy against the house foundation.
This candytuft is almost over for the season. With clusters of miniature yellow-centered blooms, it was a cheerful display this spring.
These dwarf white irises are my little wanderers. They never stay where I plant them, preferring to spread to new locations, often inconvenient ones like the middle of the lawn. Their relocation leaves a hole in their original spot. I routinely dig them up and put them back into the empty spot, but it is clear that these little beauties have their own intentions.
A pretty white-trimmed hosta. My front yard is mostly shaded and hosta is a great plant for shade.
This hosta has white in the middle of the leaves and is edged with green. If you look closely at my hosta photos, you can see missing pieces. The rabbits like hosta too.
A spirea lives in a quiet corner of the front yard where it elegantly drapes its flower-covered branches in arches that reach to the ground. Notice that its blooms look a lot like my candytuft.
Here’s one more look at the beautiful white azaleas.
I have more greens and whites in the garden, but I’m saving them for a sequel.
