Summer is officially here!
What’s on tap for your weekend? We are heading to NYC to see our son’s new “sublet” and take in some art. We are hoping to see Ellsworth Kelly’s last paintings at the Matthew Marks gallery. Saturday is the last day of the exhibit.
Just for fun…
- Can’t get enough of weddings? National Geographic has a big collection of wedding photographs from around the world. They also take a look behind the scenes of elaborate wedding shoots in China, a two-day Slavic Muslim wedding in Bulgaria, wedding celebrations in Saudi Arabia, and a look back in time at Ramses II’s marriage to his bride, Queen Maathorneferure.
- I need to empty out my freezer, so that I have room to make these frozé popsicles from Camille Styles.
- There’s nothing like a psychological thriller to kick off the summer season. I’m currently listening to Into the Water by Paula Hawkins, the author of The Girl on the Train.
- Looking for jean shorts? Check out this Not-Too-Short Jean Shorts Roundup on Verily. I found a few more options:
- Speaking of shorts, if you haven’t seen it, check out my DIY post on decorating jean short with lace appliqué.
- I am looking forward to dinner at Bar Omar in Brooklyn this weekend. One of these days I will get to their Paris restaurant.
On a more serious note: As someone who hasn’t written a creative sentence in most of her adult life, I am intimidated by the prospect of writing something other than the technical documentation I have produced for my entire career. I hope that I might begin to write a bit more creatively via this blog. I was reading an interview with Gemma Burgess, who is a writer, on Cup of Jo. While the interview is about Gemma’s beauty regime, at the end of the interview she is asked, “What advice would you give your younger self?” I liked all of her “advice to self,” but this part of her response seems like advice to me:
“…rewrite and rewrite and rewrite — writing is rewriting. It’s through re-writing that you find your voice, and once you find your voice, good things will happen.”
