Happy holidays! See you next year!
My week has been full of holiday planning, food shopping, and cooking. I’ve caught up with old friends on walks and calls, and made plans to spend time with family in the week ahead. I’m full of good cheer and excited anticipation.
I won’t be posting for a while as I take time off for the holidays. Wishing you the very best for the end of the year and the new year ahead.
Here’s what I’m sharing this week.
- Confelicity — Someone posted this as the word of the day on Facebook and I wanted to share it with you. It means taking pleasure in another person’s happiness. (Wiktionary)
- 9 Ways to Embrace Winter — Even if You Think You Hate It — These tips might come in handy this winter. (Time)
- Why Not Tell Someone They Look Great Today? — I often admire people’s outfits or hair styles. If they look nice, why not get the pleasure of telling them so? (The New York Times)
- Ruth Reichl’s Gingerbread Cake — Here’s the perfect cake for the winter season. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Goodness: Man makes Christmas wonderland on street for wife with dementia — Not only did this man bring his wife joy, he brought everyone on the street together! (The Washington Post)

Hi Dottie, I decided to take another look at your blog.
Thanks for the word confelicity. Great word. I had to search for the pronunciation which was totally different from what I expected. The English language has its quirks.
I always compliment total strangers, about their hair, about their looks, about anything positive really. The happy reaction you get from that, makes you happy too.
I don’t bake, or cook, so the gingerbread cake recipe is wasted on me.
I think I am going to look for more ways in 2025 to bring joy to people.
Happy New Year.
Greetje
Hi Greetje,
I’m glad that you came back for a visit and enjoyed the snippets about confelicity and complimenting strangers. Not everyone enjoys cooking and baking and that’s okay, because those of us who do like to do those things can share! Bringing joy to strangers sounds like a very good thing to do.
