Our exterior house project continues this weekend with a power washer rental. It’s hard to imagine more exciting times. Hopefully we’ll reward ourselves with some swimming at the end of each day.
Enjoy this last weekend of July!
This week I was captivated by the story of Judith Jones in The Editor by Sara Franklin (bookshop.org). I have been interested in anything related to the chef and cookbook author, Julia Child, for a long time. Jones was Child’s editor and the editor for so many other authors, and The Editor is right up my alley.
I had a vague sense of Judith Jones from the movies, television series, and books I’ve read about Julia Child. And, according to Franklin, people often get Judith’s story wrong.
I didn’t expect to be so taken with Jone’s life story. Sara Franklin is responsible for that. She is a fantastic author and a compelling story teller. The book is well researched and personal — a labor of love. Judith’s joys, passions, sorrows, her devotion to her work, and her authors are revealed. She retired when she was 87 years old! I didn’t want Judith’s story to end and was teary when I finished the book.
Sometimes a book comes along that makes you so thankful that the author wrote it. This was one of those books for me. I cannot wait to read another of Franklin’s books.
Here’s what I have to share with you this weekend.
