I’m looking forward to lazy time at the beach this weekend, hunting for purple quahog shells, and listening to the terns chirp as they fly low over the water hunting for fish.
Have a great summer weekend!
The July muggies are here on the island making us feel damp and sluggish. Nothing really dries in July, including my hair after a swim or a shower, or my shirt after the shortest of walks.
The other night my husband pointed to a sauce bottle on the kitchen counter, which I’d pulled from the refrigerator. It was sitting in a big puddle of water. “Is the bottle leaking or is that just condensation?” It was condensation, the contents of the bottle being much colder than the temperature in the kitchen. We served tortilla chips and salsa to guests the other night and within an hour the chips were soggy.
In July we wash mildew from the woodwork, walk across a perpetually sticky kitchen floor, and lie on moist beach towels. It’s life on an island and we wouldn’t trade it for all of the dry towels in the world.
Here’s what I have to share this weekend.
