It’s the weekend!

It's the weekend! Number 330, Gold and Black Top of Gate at a Paris Building

I’m looking forward to a weekend at home and a visit from my sister Cathie. We’ll visit our childhood haunts and eat lots of seafood!

Have a great weekend! Stay cool!

I’m still digging in the dirt a lot. My vegetable garden is an unplanned, random collection of plantings. A few potatoes from a local farm had sprouted, so I quartered and planted them. I was delighted to see their green leaves sprouting from the dirt! A second planting of Swiss Chard is sprouting, as are squash plants. Basil is thriving in our current heat wave.

I quickly and sloppily threw down the salt marsh hay to prevent more weeds. Now I’ll watch for any thin areas where persistent weeds poke their way through and I’ll add another layer of hay to those sections.

A baby bunny found its way into the garden and, when frightened by us, showed us the opening under the fence. That opening is blocked now. Baltimore Orioles found my currants and enjoyed them. I’ve given up on harvesting the fruit and consider it an offering to the birds and squirrels.

I harvested some of our garlic scapes before going to Brooklyn last week. Louis and Jorja have been enjoying them.  I look forward to enjoying the rest of them this weekend.

I saw a funny photo on Instagram the other day. Someone took a shot of her hand, finger nails filled with dirt from gardening. The caption said something like gardener’s French manicure. I’m sure all gardeners grinned when they saw it.

Here’s what I have to share this weekend.

About the photo: The very elegant top of a gate at a government building in Paris.
