We’re headed to Hudson, NY, to meet Louis and Jorja for the weekend and I can’t wait to spend time with them. I’m excited for them to introduce us to their favorite antique stores, wineries, and restaurants.
I hope that you have a great weekend!
We’ve finally had a frost and we’ve turned the clocks back. We’re moving into those days when it gets dark early and it’s hard to get out of a warm bed in the morning. No wonder bears sleep all winter. What an inviting prospect.
After last week’s cold, my basil plants turned black and the dahlia plants were drooping. Last Sunday, I took to the garden and worked on pre-winter tasks. I dug up the dahlia tubers and canna bulbs and potted them for their winter stay in the garage. My small fig trees also went into the garage for their hibernation. It’s satisfying to know that they are protected.
Dead plants went into the compost with the piles of coffee grounds and garden refuge. Leaves, dirt, the tops of the dahlias and cannas went into the mix. Next spring’s dirt in the making.
I planted more bulbs. I thought that I was done with planting, but I couldn’t resist alum bulbs at the local nursery.
The garden work isn’t complete, but I’m making progress and every session fills me with satisfaction. I might not be able to hibernate this winter, but I’m making sure that the garden can.
Here’s what I have to share this weekend.
