We’re kicking off a vacation week and I’m looking forward to reading books on the beach, dinners with corn and tomatoes, evenings spent listening to the cicadas in the backyard, and a little star gazing.
Have a great weekend!
We had a big storm earlier this week. When it was over and the sun came out, the world positively sparkled. The dark green scrub oak leaves glistened with rain water. Pine needles twinkled with drops, as if they were sprinkled with diamonds. The zinnia petals were little cups holding water for thirsty insects and birds. The dirt in my freshly dug garden beds was dark and lush. There’s nothing like a strong rain, followed by the sun, to brighten up the yard and lift one’s spirits.
Let the weather gods water my plants and I’ll head to the beach between storms.
I’m taking next week off, collecting summer moments, and won’t be posting.
Here’s what I have to share, starting with food.
- Here’s What I’m Eating: A Summer Tomato Sandwich — Mmmm. Tomato sandwiches! (Joy the Baker)
- Honeydew Granita With Lime and Mint — This looks so refreshing! (The Washington Post)
- I’m Going Through a Cold Cake Phase — I’d like to make almost every cake Alex Beggs mentions in this post, but I’d probably eat them at room temperature. (Cup of Jo)
- Morning Pages — I’m not disciplined about daily journal writing, but this practice seems like a good idea. (The Artist’s Way)
- G. Detou — If I was visiting Paris this year, I’d want to make a stop at this store. (David Lebovitz Newsletter via Substack)
- Olympia and Ariadne Irving bring colour and creative exuberance to a London rental — I love the green and yellow wall paint! (House & Garden)
- Midsummer, 2023 — Sharing a few thoughts on collecting summer’s special moments. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Goodness: Photographer doesn’t force young girls to smile in photos and the results are powerful — This photographer is so talented! (Upworthy)
