I’m looking forward to having friends over for dinner this weekend. They’ve been traveling and we’ll be virtually transported to new places via their travel stories.
Happy St. Patrick’s day if you are celebrating, and have a great weekend.
We may have turned the clocks forward last weekend, but this week didn’t bring the expected extra light. Monday was gray as a storm approached, then Tuesday and Wednesday were darker still as we were hit with a Nor’Easter. The lack of light can bring such dreariness to the day. Damp and chilly, it was weather that we just needed to get through. And, get through it we did. Thursday was a beautiful day, bright with sunshine. I hope that more comes our way this weekend.
Here are a few tidbits to read or listen to.
- Spencer, the Dog for Whom Boston Marathoners Happily Stopped, Dies at 13 — Spencer will be missed at the marathon this year. (The New York Times)
- The Last Party — Detective novel fans might enjoy this book by Clare Mackintosh. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the Welsh accents and phrases. Locals living near Mirror Lake clash with wealthy new homeowners as their development threatens the character of the community and the locals’ livelihoods. On New Year’s day, someone is found dead in the lake. Two detectives work together to figure it out. The characters are well developed and the story well told. (Audible)
- Our Paris Trip: Full Recap — This post is good for some armchair traveling to Paris. I am a David Lebovitz fan and I love that he weighed in on the best falafel sandwich place for Joanna’s trip to Paris and commented on her trip summary. (Cup of Jo)
- Pasta with Caramelized Cabbage and Toasted Walnuts — Here’s a simple vegetarian recipe with cabbage. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Goodness: A Love Letter to Libraries, Long Overdue — A hopeful look at the state of our libraries. (The New York Times)
