I’m looking forward to spending time in my Arlington backyard again. Also, I’m going to enjoy as much fresh summer produce as I can, especially corn and tomatoes.
Enjoy your weekend!
Last night I accidentally published a dahlia post that was meant for next week. It wasn’t close to being ready. I even had the wrong flower in the title! If you subscribe to my blog notifications and saw it, my apologies for the incomplete version. It is now updated.
A hawk recently hunted in our backyard and caught a squirrel. The bird spent hours on its meal. Watching from our kitchen window was a bit graphic, but the distance spared me the goriest parts of the experience. I didn’t try to stop the bird. The squirrel was already dead and hawks have to eat too. It’s all part of the cycle. The squirrel probably ate from my garden.
I was surprised that the hawk was so unafraid of people. The lawn was mowed that morning and the hawk simply took its food closer to the house and continued eating. I went out to the garden and found the hawk behind the house, still eating. It wasn’t fazed by my presence. I took pictures of it and went on to my harvesting.
In the evening, the hawk was gone and a small pile of bones and unwanted bits were left behind. I was hoping that other wildlife would take it away during the night, but it was still there days later. Apparently, the hawk ate every desirable morsel.
