Have you recovered from the big meal?
I hope that your Thanksgiving week is filled with happiness and people you love.
This year there are so many things that I am thankful for.
- These presidents who joined together and formed One America Appeal to help raise money to benefit hurricane victims.
- The thousands of other people who help put out fires, aid hurricane and earthquake victims and victims of violence and a host of the other tragedies.
- Devin Mara, Peace Corps volunteer, who teaches children in Pohnpei, Micronesia.
- Afroz Shah, who has cleared trash from a Mumbai beach for 4 hours every weekend since October 2015 and has inspired a massive beach cleanup. This story reinforces that fact that great things are often started by the efforts of one individual.
- The “gleaners” at Boston Area Gleaners, who rescue surplus farm crops for people in need.
- Chuck B., an Arlington resident, who spends every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter in the kitchen of a Somerville homeless shelter, preparing holiday meals for the residents.
- Louise R., my next-door neighbor, who volunteers at the Arlington Food Pantry and helps provide needed supplies to families in our town.
- The nurses at New Britain Hospital. Just a few weeks ago they gently cared for my father-in-law during the last hours of his life. They kept him covered with warm blankets and comfortable. What with we do without nurses?
- My father-in-law, who wasn’t with us to say grace at our Thanksgiving meal this year, who served his community tirelessly, hugged big and loved his family so much. His was a life well lived.
- My husband, Tom, who encouraged me to get started on the blog that I wanted to create for years. xoxo
- My friend, Lynda K., who shared this tap dance video on Facebook and brightened an ordinary day with music and dance. I’m sharing, to do the same for you (be sure to turn up the audio if needed). Thank you Lynda!
