After processing a lot of kale and Swiss chard from my garden, I need to do some creative cooking this weekend. I also look forward to time at the beach, reading a mystery under my beach umbrella.
Enjoy your summer weekend.
Last week I received an email from a national store with the subject line, “Halloween starts now.” I wish it wasn’t so. It’s as if the calendar page for July being flipped over to August means that we need to move on to fall. But, wait! There are a few blueberries on the bushes that the birds haven’t found and the ocean off this part of New England has finally reached inviting temperatures. I’m going to linger in summer and I invite you to join me. Let’s enjoy ripe tomatoes and fresh corn. We can listen to the sounds of resident catbirds mewing in a tree during the day. We can raise our voices over the crescendo of cicadas in the late afternoon. We’ll take a seat outside in the evening and listen to the sounds of children laughing as they play. There’s plenty of time later to plan a Halloween costume. About 60 days from now.
I’m taking next week off to enjoy more summer, so it will be radio silence from SS&SS.
