It’s not quite the weekend, but we’re leaving town early to visit our son in Brooklyn. We’re hoping to see lots of art exhibits, including one that includes some of our son’s paintings. Can’t wait to spend a weekend in the city!
Will you be planning your Thanksgiving menu this weekend? Whatever you are doing, have a good one.
- We’re debating about where to eat in New York. So many restaurant choices, so little time.
- Prune has been on my “must visit” list since I read Gabrielle Hamilton’s memoir, Blood, Bones & Butter.
- Traif looks like a great place for dinner, late night munchies or a weekend brunch.
- We will probably make stops for donuts at Dough and Donut Plant. We’ll have a major sugar high this weekend.
- These ingenious young women invented straws that detect date rape drugs. Here’s a link to their Facebook page.
- Here are a few ideas for Thanksgiving dinner:
- This Green Bean and Mushroom Casserole sounds great. Wild mushrooms — Yes please!
- Would you grill a turkey under a brick? It sounds delicious.
- Change up your salad offering with this Arugula, Orange and Fennel Salad.
- I went out for some exercise this week and got caught in a downpour in 40 degree weather. Ugh. My jacket was soaked through, my legs were wet and my feet squelched in my sneakers. That miserable experience motivated me to search for rain gear that is good for running. I haven’t purchased anything, but here are some ideas. If you have experience with good rain gear for running, please share with us in a comment.
- Runner’s World recommended this Gore One Lady GTX ShakeDry Active Run Jacket (in their review The Best New Jackets for Running in the Rain), because it is waterproof, not just water-repellent, (in How to Waterproof Your Run).
- In terms of water-resistant footwear, Shape magazine recommended an older version of the Brooks Ghost 10 GTX (in last year’s article called The Best Waterproof Running Gear).
- In the hat department, the SealSkinz Waterproof Beanie Hat and Columbia’s Watertight Hat with a brim, were recommended in the Shape article mentioned above.

So lovely to look through your blog – well done and keep going. I especially enjoyed this thanksgiving piece, I wish we had thanksgiving in the UK xxx
Hi Nikki,
I’m so glad that you like the blog. You are such an inspiration.
Given that you have a Happiness Project and from the things that you write about on your blog, I would say that you “give thanks,” often. Now you just need to make your own Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends. You’d have a great time.
Big hugs, Dottie
