I’m looking forward to a long walk on Saturday, because I haven’t had much outdoor time lately. Sunday might not be as nice, but I have lots of indoor activities to look forward to.
Have a warm and cozy weekend and enjoy having more daylight each day!
Thanks to cataract surgery, I’m viewing the world with amazing clarity. It’s the first time I haven’t needed to wear glasses or contact lenses since I was a kid. Getting through surgery number two was my focus at the start of the month and now I’m back on track.
If you are celebrating Valentine’s day with loved ones next week, have a special time.
Here’s everything I’ve been catching up on lately.
- My Holocaust-Survivor Grandmother Found Happiness Everywhere. I See Her in My Daughter. — This is a wonderful story about the amazing strength of a holocaust survivor. (Kveller)
- Scenes From Midwinter — Reminds me of our January storm! (The Atlantic)
- How A Pearl Necklace Helped Amy Schneider Make Jeopardy! History — Like some athletes wear the same socks, Amy Schneider wore her good luck necklace. (Elle)
- Here are a few books that are on my radar:
- Patch Work: A Life Amongst Clothes — This looks like a good book to curl up with this winter. Claire Wilcox, a curator in Fashion at the Victoria & Albert Museum, has written a collection of stories about her life, each tied to clothing. (IndieBound)
- The Loot — I listened to this thriller and enjoyed the story of Charlie McCabe, an ex-Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, who returns home to find her father in trouble with the mob. She gets a job as a bodyguard and her first client is getting bomb threats. Charlie needs to help her father and protect her client. (Audible)
- Grist — I read a great review of Abra Berens’s cookbook, organized by type of grain, bean, seed and legume and includes tips and techniques for working with them. It has 125 recipes and beautiful photographs for inspiration. (IndieBound)
- Creamy Arrabiata Pasta — This is just what we need when it snows. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Goodness: After a storm, school football coach told players to ‘find an elderly or disabled neighbor and shovel their driveway’ — I love that this is a tradition with the team. (The Washington Post)
