Happy weekend everyone! I hope that you have a great fall weekend.
We’re having a weekend full of good friends and good food. Tomorrow my friends Susan and Houda and I are taking our annual outing to Carlisle where we will indulge in a Kimball’s ice cream sundae, admire the fall foliage and visit local nurseries to check out plants. In the evening, we’re celebrating Diwali with friends. Groan – I anticipate weeks of extra exercise to burn off the results of my many indulgences.
- Our hearts are with the people of California as the wildfires bring more death and destruction. Here are some articles about how to help: HuffPost, CNN and San Diego Union-Tribune.
For links to ways to help hurricane victims and Las Vegas shooting victims, see my post from last weekend. - I’m thinking about making this Pasta with Delicata Squash and Sage-Brown Butter using squash given to us by friends.
- We’ve been serving this Rosé-Aperol Spritz whenever people come for dinner. I won’t consider a seasonal halt until it gets dark at 4:00, but I might completely buck tradition (that rosé is a summer drink) and serve it year round. (I know, hard to believe, coming from someone who puts her summer whites away after Labor Day.)
- Looking for a new recipe for entertaining? Try these Mussels with Sweet Italian Sausage and White Wine. Serve them with these Garlic Toasts. So delicious.
- I’ve been listening to The Midwife’s Revolt and I want to make Lizzie’s Spoils-of-War Orange Cake.
- Do you like wampum beads? If you are in the Boston area on October 21st, check out the Harvard Art Museum’s workshop with Elizabeth James-Perry, an Aquinnah Wampanoag wampum and textile artist. She’ll talk about crafting wampum and you will have the chance to drill your own beads.
- These wool flannel sneakers are perfect for fall and winter. I love Superga and can’t wait to wear mine!
