I had prepared a post for this weekend, but it didn’t feel right after this week’s events. As a result, this weekend’s post is a bit of a mixed bag.
One thing is certain — I hope that you and your loved ones are well. Have a good weekend.
I wrote the last two paragraphs of this post early in the week. By Wednesday, we were watching extremism unfold at our nation’s Capitol. I have feared that we were headed in this direction for some time, but I am still shocked and saddened. As we cope with that violence, we are gripped by increasing losses of our fellow citizens from the Covid virus. These are very difficult times.
What I originally planned to tell you about was our holiday break. I love the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Tom and I reminisced about all of the trips that we’ve taken with Louis during that week in past years. We often headed to Canada, having wonderful visits to Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa. In 2019, we changed things up and rented a house on the coast of Maine. It was so relaxing! We read in chairs facing the water, took walks around the neighborhood, took lots of photos, visited museums, cooked in and dined out. There was a stressful drive home in blizzard conditions, but the rest of the time was cozy and easy.
2020 was our first Christmas without Louis and it was hard. But, there was so much joy in remembering our previous holidays with him. If we are careful, we will have more vacations with Louis soon.
