This weekend I’m going to catch up on correspondence and do some work around the house and yard. Hopefully there will be time for long walks.
Have a great weekend!
With our new normal of this pandemic, it’s sometimes hard to keep track of what day it is (heck, even what month it is). We are now well into summer. The grass is dry and crunchy under my feet. The geranium leaves are browned around the edges. I have that lazy, it’s too hot to do anything, feeling. But! There is a glass-half-full side of midsummer. It’s tomato season! And peach and nectarine season! The blueberries in our backyard on Martha’s Vineyard are turning blue. I picked the ripe ones before we left last weekend. I’m hoping that the birds leave some for us when we return in August.
I recently got a pandemic haircut! It’s radically different than any haircut I’ve ever had and I find it very refreshing. A local hairdresser came to my house and cut my hair in the yard. I wore a mask and it felt very safe. I’ll share more later.

- The 2020 Audubon Photography Awards — The photos are so beautiful! It’s hard to believe that the Northern Jacana photo is of a real bird. Vayun Tiwari won the Youth Winner award for it. (Audubon)
- Goodness: I finally read Becoming and it reminded me that there are amazing people who are dedicated to service to Americans and people throughout the world. I am grateful to Michelle Obama for her commitment to girls, their education and success. As she put it, “Education had been the primary instrument of change in my own life, my lever upward in the world.” I also love that she worked so hard to improve nutrition, exercise and the general good health of our children.
