We’re having a huge Zoom party to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 95th birthday on Sunday morning. Later in the day, we’re having another Zoom session to celebrate Father’s Day with our son and his girlfriend’s family. In the evening we’re grilling my husband’s favorite steak tips. What a full day!
Enjoy this first weekend of summer and Father’s Day.
Weekends always involve some sort of baking project and my sourdough starter is going strong. I particularly like recipes that are easy to make and that use the starter discard. Sourdough biscuits are on regular rotation. I recently made delicious cheddar sourdough popovers. I’ll share the recipes soon.
Local wildlife challenges my gardening efforts. I follow after chipmunks, who easily squeeze through our vegetable garden fence, and I fill in their tunnels. They are industrious creatures, darn them!
I planted zinnias around the stump of our old apple tree and the rabbits came for dinner. I dug up the plants and moved them to a flower bed next to the house. It didn’t foil the rabbits. A few of the plants were half their size the next morning. I moved the plants into the vegetable garden. Hopefully the zinnias will recover, because that’s the last move.
