We’re heading to Martha’s Vineyard for vacation. I’m looking forward to lazy mornings with coffee in the backyard, outdoor showers while viewing the long setting sun on our pine trees (glass of rosé on hand) and walks on beautiful Gay Head beach.
I hope that you have a glorious weekend.
- These Madewell skinny white jeans will get a lot of use on my vacation. They are soooo comfortable.
- Cool ocean breezes will call for this Joules striped sweatshirt. It fits like a dream and the color is great. It’s currently on sale, so there aren’t many left. However, this sweatshirt, which comes in a variety of colors, seems to be a company staple. I’m assuming that they will stock them again.
- I’m collecting books for my vacation. None of them are new publications. I picked some up at my local used book store (shout out to The Book Rack in Arlington, MA) and some are from the stash on my shelves. Depending on my choices, I’ll be lucky to finish one or two. What I don’t consume on vacation will provide entertainment during the rest of the summer, maybe even into early fall. Here’s what is on my list:
- Moby Dick – No East coast dweller, especially one who lives on Martha’s Vineyard, should go as long as I have without reading this. I read Ahab’s Wife several years ago and it feels a little backwards to have read that first (although I really enjoyed it).
- Emma by Jane Austen and Emma: A Modern Retelling by Alexander McCall Smith – I will read Austen’s original first. I love Austen and I’m curious to see how McCall Smith, a wonderful story teller, updates this classic.
- Hidden in Paris – Armchair traveler that I am of late (yes, this is a reference to Accidental Tourist), I’m thinking of escaping to Paris via this story of three women sharing a house in the city of light.
- On my walks I will listen to Seven Stones to Stand or Fall: A Collection of Outlander Fiction by Diana Gabaldon. If you aren’t familiar with the Outlander series and you are open to time traveling historical romance, start with Outlander, which is the first book. Davina Porter is a fantastic narrator. I love her Scottish accent!
- By now you have probably noticed that I like rosé. This Rosé Poached Peaches with Whipped Coconut Creme recipe sounds like a delicious way to use up leftover rosé (okay, I’ll be opening a fresh bottle since I’ll never have any left).
