I happened upon some artistic sidewalk repairs in France and want to share these sidewalk mosaics by the French artist Ememem with you.
When I saw the first sidewalk repair, I remembered reading about an artist who created works like these. When I got home from our trip, I found articles about Ememem, who creates ceramic mosaics to repair damage in sidewalks, walls, and other public spaces. It was his work that I’d stumbled upon.
Imagine looking down at the sidewalk and seeing one of these stunning mosaics on the sidewalk.
An example of the beauty we get to experience when a sidewalk crack becomes art.
These two articles about Ememem have lots of photos of his mosaics: Vibrant Tiled Mosaics by Ememem Repair Gouged Pavement and Fractured Sidewalks and Ceramic Mosaics Mend Cracked Sidewalks, Potholes, and Buildings in Vibrant Interventions by Ememem. He even has a residency program to teach other artists his techniques! (All links to Colossal)
Here’s a link to Ememem’s Instagram account if you want to check out his posts and more of his work.
Remember, don’t just look up. Look down sometimes.
I only saw of few of these installations. I hope that someone is creating a city walking tour of these French sidewalk mosaics. It would be a big hit.
