Peonies, like so many of my favorite spring flowers, last for such a short amount of time. They open in glorious bursts of color and scent and in a day or two, they start dropping their petals. Perhaps their brief presence is part of their appeal. We have to make the time to fully appreciate their short spring visit.
I’m sharing some of my favorite blooms from springtime walks.
The pale pink and yellow peony at the top of this post is stunning. I need to search for it in catalogs, so that I can identify it and hopefully add one to my garden. I’m happy with the photo too. It looks like a painting.
The wind was blowing the petals of this pink beauty, but the sun was highlighting its color spectacularly.
The ruffles and jagged edges of these peonies remind me of carnations. This garden had several peony varieties. You can see some pink ones in the corner.
Beautiful dark pink peonies!
I’d never seen yellow peonies until this year and they are a welcome addition to the color spectrum. I need to make room for yellow peonies.
I love how the edges of this pink peony are trimmed with white. It’s all in the details.
Check out the centers of these white peonies. The bees must love these flowers!
These peonies had almost finished their brief season and dropped more petals with every stirring of the breeze. Even the fallen petals were lovely.
I hope that your peony season was full of color and lovely fragrances.
