Daylilies are glorious this summer. I cannot get enough of them. These orange daylilies catch the sun in my backyard garden. Sprinkled amidst the lilies is red bergamot — a favorite of our resident hummingbirds.
My in-laws gave me these yellow beauties. My mother-in-law calls them lemon lilies. Their scent is amazing. When they are warmed by the sun, my front yard smells wonderful!
Rich rust-colored lilies in a sea of green foliage.
As some gardening friends have observed, the leaves aren’t terribly exciting. However, their interiors and their range of colors and textures make up for their ordinary foliage. For example, I love the ruffled edges of these pink beauties and the progression inward to dark pink and yellow is stunning.
And these lovely lilies with their peach exteriors transition to a brilliant shade of current and inward to bright yellow. To truly appreciate a day lily, you need to stop and look closely — always a good thing when it comes to flora.
Even our common double-petaled daylilies bring joyous color to our summer garden.
