I am always a big fan of spring, but this year I need spring more than ever. We are fortunate to live in an area that isn’t densely populated, so we are outside walking whenever the weather cooperates. During this time of self-quarantining, watching spring arrive, with its beautiful fresh colors, is especially hopeful and lifts our spirits.
Here are some of the spring blooms that I’ve seen during my walks through Arlington, Lexington and Winchester.
One of the earliest signs of spring were these colorful crocuses (croci, if you prefer).
Sometimes you get the gritty with the pretty. In this example, leaves from last fall mulch an abundance of spring blossoms next to an asphalt driveway.
Grape hyacinths have made themselves at home in my yard, popping up in places I don’t remember planting them — a welcome surprise.
This beautiful azalea stopped me in my tracks.
I like the contrast between these vivid tulips and the little blue flowers (Siberian Squill, I think).
It’s a little early for this creeping phlox, but the sun-drenched wall provides the necessary heat for early blooms.
