Make this mask necklace holder, so that you can wear a mask around your neck and easily pull it up when you need to slip it on. This is similar to a necklace for holding reading glasses.
You only need a couple of items to make one of these mask holders.
Even though vaccines are on the way, we’ll be needing our masks for a while longer. Use one of these mask holders to keep your mask handy at all times.
My husband made these for us and we use them all the time. We hang them around our necks for our neighborhood walks and have easy access to our masks when someone approaches.
You can have fun with these by using colorful shoe laces, such as these blue and white ticked laces, a solid pink pair, or even pride rainbow versions.
Supplies
You’ll need the following supplies to make a DIY mask necklace holder.
- A shoe lace that is 33 inches or longer. I recommend going with a standard 36-inch lace.
- Two 1 1/4 inch alligator clips. You can buy these at your local hardware store. (Here are some from Home Depot to give you an idea of what they look like.)
- A pair of needle nose pliers
Directions
Insert the wrapped end of the shoelace (called the aglet, if you are interested) into the open end of the alligator clip.
There are small tabs sticking up on each side of the open end.
Use the tip of the pliers (one side on top of the tab and lace and the other side on the bottom) to crimp one of the tabs down on top of the lace.
Move the pliers to the other tab and crimp that tab.
Move the pliers to either side of the tabs and squeeze them inward a little.
Place the pliers over both tabs and press them down more.
Wiggle the shoelace to make sure it is tightly in place.
Repeat the process with the other end of the shoe lace.
Your mask holder is done!
You can attach each clip to the bottom edges of your mask.
Wear the necklace with the inside of the mask facing out when not in use, so that when you flip the mask up over your face, the outside of the mask is facing out.
