Campari Spritz

Campari Spritz Cocktail

Predecessor to the Aperol spritz, the Campari spritz has a very different flavor. A Campari spritz is bold and bitter (in a good way) versus the Aperol spritz, which is gentle and sweet. The taste is memorable.

This is a delicious summer cocktail and, since summer isn’t waiting around for me to share a recipe, I’m getting to it post-haste.

This cocktail’s distinctly forward flavor makes it a good match for appetizers with character. It can stand up to garlicky pickles, strong charcuterie, olives or anchovies.

Tips

  • Lots of recipes suggest a garnish of green olives. The Campari spritzes that I had in Italy were served with an orange slice. I’ll experiment with the olive soon.
  • You can serve this in a wine glass or rocks glass.
  • The recipe calls for serving the cocktail on ice. If you prefer to skip the ice, chill the ingredients ahead of time.

This recipe makes two cocktails.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Prosecco
  • 4 ounces Campari
  • 2 ounces club soda (or sparkling water, such as San Pellegrino)
  • Orange slices for garnish

Directions

Fill two glasses with ice. Add the Prosecco, Campari and club soda. Stir gently. Garnish with orange slices and serve.
