This Bourbon Manhattan cocktail recipe uses bourbon instead of the rye whiskey used in a classic Manhattan. It also includes sweet and dry vermouth. If you like a classic Manhattan, I recommend that you give this version a try.
We had these Manhattans on a recent Saturday evening and they were the perfect way to start the night.
The traditional garnish for a Manhattan is a cherry. Be sure to use good cherries. I used Amarena cherries from Trader Joe’s. They come in a rich, delicious syrup (you can see a few drops on the glasses in my photo). Lots of people like Luxardo cherries.
This recipe makes 2 drinks.

You’ll need the following ingredients to make these Bourbon Manhattan cocktails.
- 4 ounces bourbon
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1 ounce dry vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- cherries to garnish
Instructions
Chill your glasses by filling them with ice and letting them sit while you make the cocktails.
Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Add the bourbon, vermouth and bitters to the shaker and shake well. Empty the ice from the glasses and pour the cocktails into the chilled glasses. Garnish with cherries.
