It looks like we’re in for more snow over the next several days. I’m planning a quiet weekend of indoor projects and evenings in front of a fire.
Stay warm and dry this weekend!
I was excited to see the new Wuthering Heights movie, having loved the book in my youth. As an impressionable young person, I remember the story being so romantic and sad. And, a bit crazy. Heathcliff wandering the moors in agony over his lost love. Cathy trapped in a marriage with someone she didn’t love. A story of ill fated lovers. The kind of story that sticks with a kid. (The same for Jane Eyre, which I read around the same time.)
I enjoyed some of the movie sets and the lighting. The gorgeous sunsets and misty moors. Red-hued passageways. Fish suspended in gooshy, translucent aspic. (Can you imagine anyone finding that appetizing?) But, the film fell flat for me. Was that because my expectations were based in exaggerated childhood memories? Or, was it the buildup it’s been getting? I don’t know the answer, but one thing that I am sure of, it’s time to reread the book.
With Emily Brontë and her movie on my mind, I’m sharing a couple of related articles this week, as well as a few other items.
