If you’re in the Nashville, TN area, I highly recommend spending time at Radnor Lake State Park. We were there in May and it is a great place for a stroll or a hike.
Our friend Jimmie lives near this park and took us there for a walk. It was a beautiful day to be outside and the park sparkled after rain showers the night before.
We started our journey on a wide paved path around the lake, with beautiful views of the lake and its surroundings. There was plenty of room for walking, biking, or pushing children in carriages.

There was plenty of wildlife in the lake. The turtles were sunning themselves, including the huge snapping turtle at the top of the log.

A Great Blue Heron was close enough that I could see its individual feathers.

Tom zoomed in on this colorful Wood Duck in an algae-covered section of the lake.

He also caught a great shot of a Prothonotary Warbler, which required a lot of patience on his part. Warblers like to flit about and they don’t stay still for long.

We left the main walkway to follow a mossy trail into the woods. Shafts of light filtered through the green canopy and the scent of honeysuckle wafted through the air. It was intoxicating.

The woods were full of deer, who had bedded down in the area and were not afraid of us as we passed by. This one didn’t even give us a look.

Tom got a close-up of this fellow, who was a little more interested in us.
There were other trails in the park, making this a great place for multiple visits. For more information about the park, here’s the Radnor Lake State Park section of the TN State Park website.
