We’re headed to Martha’s Vineyard this weekend and I can’t wait to be back on the island. Salt air and briny breezes await!
Have a great weekend. Happy Easter to those who celebrate.
I don’t think of myself as being good at resting. I don’t like naps. So many people I know rave about the restorative benefits of a 15-minute nap. Perhaps I haven’t figured out the right approach. Short seems to be the secret to a good nap. Sleep too long and you wake up cranky. At least, that’s how I usually feel.
I was pleasantly surprised by this post: 50 Ways to Rest (Instagram). You can also see it on kotte.org. It lists activities that provide an immediate restful feeling. I am familiar with many of them and agree that they make you feel like you’ve taken a deep, restful inhale of breath or experienced a light, joyful feeling. Stopping to look at the moon or clouds. Watching a flock of birds flying overhead or a swan cutting a trail in the water (these are my additions). Wearing something that makes you feel good all day.
I’d never thought of these things as restful, but when brought to my attention, they do seem to inspire calm and restfulness. I’m going to try and be more aware of these moments and give myself a pat on the back for having a restful personality.
Here’s what I have to share this weekend.
- This Is the Holocaust Story I Said I Wouldn’t Write — It’s important to read about people we should never forget. (The New York Times)
- What to Know About April’s ‘Micromoon’ — Does the moon look smaller to you right now? (Time)
- A Day Without Reading — Do you read every day? I enjoyed this post about becoming a reader. (High Heels in the Wilderness)
- Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Hanging Nasturtiums — This was a stunning nasturtium display and the setting can’t be beat. (Sea Salt and Sailor Stripes)
- Better than Scalloped Potatoes: Dauphinoise Potatoes — I cannot wait to try these potatoes! (Joy the Baker)
