It’s the weekend!

It's the weekend! Number 166, Large Fungus in Local Yard

We are headed to Connecticut this weekend for a socially distanced visit with our son. We haven’t seen him since late December and we miss him so much! We’re looking forward to seeing his girlfriend, Julia, too! We’re also going to have a visit with my mother-in-law. It will be great to see her. We will be very, very careful, keep our distance, wear our masks and wash our hands. It will be so worth it.

Have a good August weekend! I hope that you are well.

Last week, the crickets in our backyard started to chirp in the evenings and I am trying to not think of their song as a sign of summer’s end. We have plenty of summer left.

This summer has had a rich quality, considering that it is absent of so many traditional events. The pandemic has narrowed my options in some ways and sharpened my focus in many other ways that I fully appreciate.

My pandemic sourdough starter continues to give me great pleasure. I pull it out of the refrigerator and soon it is bubbling and expanding in the jar. The scent of sourdough tang is addictive! I am expanding my sourdough cooking repertoire, making this blueberry rhubarb sourdough coffee cake and last weekend, I made blueberry sourdough scones. I’ll share that recipe soon.

About the photo: Sun brightens a beautiful fungus found on one of our walks.
