Striped Shirts With a Little Something Extra

Boden Breton in Riviera Blue, Striped Shirts With a Little Something Extra

Striped shirts are getting a bit of a refresh this season. Bretons are a classic and I think that they’ll be sticking around. If you need a change and want to add something new to your stripes, here are some striped shirts with a little something extra.

These tops will transition you from winter into the next two seasons. You can wear them now with your favorite blazer or cashmere cardigan and continue to wear them through spring and cool summer evenings. Click on the images below to open the sellers’ websites.

Here’s what I like about these tops (descriptions match images from left to right, top to bottom in the rows above).

Ties and bows are going strong. The BP Side Tie Stripe Tee changes up a standard striped shirt with an attractive tie at the hip.

The contrasting border stripes on the hem, sleeves and neck of the Chaus Mixed Stripe Top add an interesting visual element. The top has a little extra length, making it easy to wear with your favorite leggings.

J. Crew knows how to do a striped shirt, as demonstrated by the simple Tie Sleeve Striped Top. I like the ties at the cuffs of the 3-quarter length sleeves. If you need a change from navy and ivory, it comes in two more color combinations.

The dainty ruffle at the cuffs and bottom of the Topshop Stripe Lettuce Hem Crop Top sold me. This top will work well with high waisted pants or skirts.

The Gap Graphic Stripe Pullover Sweater might be my favorite of the lot. It incorporates the season’s trends with the “love” text and sparkly dog embellishments.

Boden offers a great selection of Bretons. Included in the color choices are two tops with added color at the sleeve cuffs. (The Azalea version is shown in photo gallery and the Riviera Blue is shown at the top of this post.)

I like the combination of pastel and bold colors in the Gap Stripe U-Neck Raglan Pullover Sweater. It also comes in a gray and white version.

The Gap Softspun Long Sleeve Stripe Boatneck Top has a loose, casual appeal. The contrasting stripes at the shoulders of the drop-sleeves emphasize the oversized “comfy” look.
