It’s the weekend!

Pastries in Fells Point

I hope that you have fun plans for the long weekend.

We are headed to Baltimore to help our son move out of his 3rd floor walk-up. If we are lucky, it won’t rain much. I’m delighted that it won’t be in the 90s. Been there before.

Just for fun…

  • I’m hungry for this Olive Oil Pound Cake with Roasted Strawberries from Joy the Baker.
  • Nordstrom is having its semi-annual sale and there are lots of great choices for summer. Here are some items that I have my eye on:
    • I’d like these sandals in sand, gold and blue.
    • These are great looking cropped bootcut jeans. I also like these raw-hemmed skinny jeans and these slim ankle jeans.
    • This top has stripes, great sleeves and a bow in the back. Win, win and win.
  • I recently had ramps, both grilled and pickled versions, in a couple of fantastic dishes at Woodberry Kitchen in Hampden. I found this post about sustainably harvesting ramps to protect the ramp population, now that they are a trendy food. (Good information about cooking, eating and storing ramps too.)
  • Have you read the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger? The courageous, extremely practical and soulless Alexia Tarabotti (love her name) contends with vampires, werewolves and the Queen of England in this very funny steampunk romance. Start with Soulless, because you need to “Begin at the beginning…” (as written by Lewis Carroll).
Better yet, listen to this series.

While we are in Baltimore, we are staying at an Airbnb in Hampden. We are going to need sustenance to get us through the move. Maybe…

  • Coffee from Artifact Coffee and Spro Coffee to jump-start moving days.
  • Frites from Le Garage (better yet, an entire meal).
  • Almond croissants from Pitango Bakery. If we finish the move by Sunday night, I’m lobbying for a trip to Fells Point on Monday morning to relax at one of the bakery’s harborside tables.
